Famitsu Editors Love Virtua Fighter 5!

February 2nd, 2007 . by jb

VF5 LogoThe Famitsu scores for this week are:

35/40 – [9|9|9|8] – Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3)
30/40 – [7|8|8|7] – Medal of Honor Heroes (PSP)
29/40 – [6|8|8|7] – Cooking Mama: Cook Off! (Wii)
28/40 – [8|7|7|6] – Luminous Arc (DS)
28/40 – [7|7|7|7] – Jet Impulse (DS)
26/40 – [7|7|6|6] – OutRun2 SP (PS2)
19/40 – [4|5|5|5] – Fuzion Frenzy 2 (360)
16/40 – [4|4|4|4] – New Rainbow Island (PSP)

It's really awesome to see this game gaining momentum as it nears it's release.  The PS3 is starving for some exclusive games right now (even if that exclusivity only lasts for months).  VF5, based on the previews, looks to be a great fighting title with great visuals.  I personally can't wait to see what VF5 brings to the table.

But to quote my fellow editors:  "No online play, so it's awful!"

Sony to SplitFish: Huh?

February 1st, 2007 . by Josh

Well, with all this news of the Playstation 3 possibly getting force feedback and rumble. 1Up.com decided to get to the bottom of it as they contacted Sony for a official response if it were true or false.

"We have had no contact with this company and continue to have no plans to include FF [force feedback] in SIXAXIS."

Now thats not to say that it won't come true. As of now Sony and SplitFish have yet to contact each other, but even if Sony doesn't want to add their solution to the controller, SplitFish can still possibly release a addon to the SIXAXIS.

New Blast Factor Stuff

February 1st, 2007 . by Josh

Today on the Playstation Store you'll be able to download a new pack for Blast Factor (pending you have the game). This new pack adds a variety of new multi player modes and you can also jack the speed up to insane levels.

The new downloadable content will run you $3 which isn't too bad at all.

Possible PS3 Price Cut?

February 1st, 2007 . by Josh

No, no way. Never going to happen, seriously, no stop asking! Well, ok, possibly?

Straight from (Senior VP) Takao Yuhara himself, there may just be a possible Playstation 3 price cut. But when you ask? Maybe in 2007, but with all these maybes, will it come true? Who knows, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

"We may look at the [PS3’s] price as part of our strategy to expand the market when the timing is right."

Who knows if it’s really going to happen, but if it does, I can see it really helping Sony since that really is, whats keeping people from buying the console. Ok that and the lack of decent games at this time.

Unreal Tournament 3, Still On!

January 31st, 2007 . by Josh

Oh it's on! Midway seems to have made a tiny mistake on a fact sheet which in turn, caused everyone to believe the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game were coming soon. But what about the Playstation 3 version you ask? Well through Midways confusion people thought the game was delayed until 2008, it's not.

Now that the confusion is all cleared up, all three platforms will be getting Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007, no delay for the Playstation 3 or any other console, at least no yet. One thing most people forgot, it's Epic who makes Unreal Tournament, they'll decide when it will come out.

3.10 goes LoL

January 31st, 2007 . by joshtest

SmashWell, as of two days ago, Sony had released the new firmware for their loving PSP. This version, 3.10, has various upgrades such as… uh, better playstation store GUI. And uh.. yeah, thats about it.

Now, the impressive note, is that within 24 hours, the usual homebrew community has already decrypted the firmware.

So what does this mean for people who don't keep up with the PSP developments? Well, for one, unsigned code in the form of other peoples applications for the PSP. From IR remotes, to VNC ports, just about everything you could want a handheld computer to do, someone has done.

Of course, the PSP can also play UMD games via ISO through a replacement firmware developed by Dark Alex. His Open Edition "OE" firmware allows you full rights and access to the latest firmware, without signed restrictions.

Booting ISOs without extra programs? Check

Playing PSOne games (through use of his own popstation program)? Check

Location Free? Check

Full Homebrew capability? Check

Sex with midgets? Triple Check

Why Sony continues to release weekly firmware, with no actual upgrades, for the full purpose of breaking the pirate…. er homebrew community, I don't know. You'd think that since version 1.5 of their firmware, they'd have given up, as every firmware exceeding that has been decrypted quite quickly.

SIXAXIS Gets It’s Rumble On

January 31st, 2007 . by jb

Playmote + NunchuckSplitFish GameWare has created a new force feedback system that applies it's rumbling to the PS3 SIXAXIS controller.

The funniest part about this news is that the SplitFish is claiming that it's feedback "uses no moving parts to produce meaningful sensory feedback".  No moving parts, eh?  Is it some kind of wave emitter that's going to give you hand cancer or something?  How do you feel vibration if there is nothing moving?!

What's cool is that the device is able to be sold as an add-on or built directly into the SIXAXIS during production (if Sony would ever oblige).

With the PS3 not turning profits right now: I can't see Sony forking over more money to include a feature.  Force Feedback isn't going to make or break the system.

Pictured is one of their other devices for the PS2.  Wii Nunchuck + DualShock = Ugly.

Poor, Poor Xbox Dreamers

January 31st, 2007 . by Josh

It's a sad day for any Xbox 360 user who dreamed, dreamed of having Devil May Cry 4 on their console. Apparently Capcom has come out of the closet.

They once more shattered a rumor in its infant stage denying that they plan on releasing the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive on the Xbox 360.

But don't worry people, soon it will be February, and you all can come up with more rumors to spread about Capcom. Maybe bring back some favorite classics, like Microsoft buying them!

Rumor: Devil May Cry

January 29th, 2007 . by Josh

At least the rumors surrounding each next-gen current gen consoles haven't stopped. This time, it once again follows a Capcom franchise, but at least it isn't about Microsoft buying out Capcom.

So people are saying that Devil May Cry 4 may leave the Playstation 3 and head over to the Xbox 360, making it a multi platform release. Whats strange about this one, is the source of the rumor seems to be the Official Playstation Magazine who says Capcom is looking to release the upcoming game on both consoles.

I'd take this one with a grain of salt, considering all the rumors surrounding Capcom and every other game thats coming out as a exclusive. Or at least wait until Capcom denies or confirms this rumor.
