PS3 In Europe Gimped

February 28th, 2007 . by jb

ps3.jpgIn order to save money, Sony, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to further gimp the Playstation 3 that will go on sale in Europe March 23rd by not including the chip to allow fuller backward compatibility with PS2 games.  Instead, some PS2 games will be playable through "special" software.  Apparently Sony is also considering selling the gimped PS3's in the USA and Japan as well, but no decision has yet been made.

Like I need another reason to not buy the Playstation 3 (where's the rumble, bitch?!)

Mercenaries 2 Spreading Out

February 22nd, 2007 . by Josh

Have an Xbox 360, PS2, PS3 or PC? Well then you can now play Mercenaries 2! EA and Pandemic have announced that the once PS3 exclusive game is now going to be out on each system.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames delivers
the next evolution in explosive open world gameplay – regardless of the
system you play it on," said Pandemic Studios CEO Andrew Goldman.

All four platforms are incredible gaming machines, and from the
beginning we designed an experience that accentuates their individual
strengths and delivers the interactive freedom and explosive action
Mercenaries fans demand.

We all know that with the next-gen current-gen consoles prices for development have sky-rocketed. Which then leads to spreading each game to each system to try and regain as much money as possible, so as usual expect less and less exclusives.

Armored Core 4 Details

February 19th, 2007 . by Josh

Those in the UK waiting to get their Playstation 3's will be pleased to know that Sega has revealed the street date for the release of Armored Core 4.

You probably want me to tell you the date right? Well, I'm not going to! Not yet anyways. But at least this game will be out soon after the consoles release, adding more fuel to why people should consider buying it.

Publisher 505 Games is pleased to today announce the April 27th release of Armored Core 4 on PlayStation 3. Armored Core 4
is the latest title in the historic mech-battling action and simulation
saga, and is the first ‘next-generation’ incarnation of the
internationally beloved franchise. This dazzling brand new chapter
offers the ultimate in fast-paced, high octane mech simulation.

Armored Core 4
exploits the awesome power of PlayStation 3 to deliver astounding
visuals and eye-watering special effects, including dynamic lighting
and shadows, swirling water and mysterious fog. Mech designs benefit
from massively more detailed 3D models and the arenas and environments
now offer a giant leap in interactivity and detail. Players can use
these interactive features to their advantage, for instance by smashing
open arena walls to let in the light and search for enemies, or by
hiding in water to ambush rivals.

If you're like me then you're looking forward to this game. I just hope Sega didn't drop the ball with it like they did with the next-gen current-gen Sonic games. Though still no release date for the UK release on the Xbox 360, at least you're getting it for one console.

Quake Wars For PS3, 360

February 13th, 2007 . by Josh

Apparently John Carmack isn't so down on the PS3 as he's letting Quake Wars be released on the console as well. But the whole situation is weird, both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions are being worked on by two different studios.

Z-Axis (see X-Men the Official Game) and Nerve Software (see Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil) are the two companies working on the console versions. Z-Axis is handling the Playstation 3 side and Nerve Software taking the Xbox 360.

Rubber Ducky, You’re The One!

February 8th, 2007 . by Josh

Phil Harrison's rubber duck demo that was used to show off the Playstation 3 at 2005's E3 will be released on the Playstation Store.

What's so special about a rubber ducky demo you say? Well, nothing. But they did turn it into an actual full game!

No other real details about the "game" are available but if anything is known, we'll let you know. For now just expect it to be released within a few weeks.
