PS3 Already KOs the 360 in Japan

December 8th, 2006 . by jb

Lieutenant Dan...ice cream....!Even with a massive headstart, the Xbox 360 has already been bested in sales by the home-grown PS3.

The numbers in Japan look like:

 – PS3: 187,836 units sold (1 months time)

 – XBox 360: 178,070 units sold (1 years time)

If the PS3 and the 360 were boxers, this would have been Muhammid Ali vs. Lieutenant  Dan… the sans-legs…Lieutenant Dan.

The real winner in Japan, of course, is the Wii.  Had the PS3 been more widely available…now that's another story.

Final Fantasy XIII

December 8th, 2006 . by Josh

There is no doubt that SquareEnix is on a current hot streak. After the long wait and final release for Kingdom Hearts II, Final Fantasy XII they seem to be unstoppable.

Now with the release of Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS and Final Fantasy V: Advance for the Gameboy Advance, SquareEnix has started to draw gamers into next-gen goodness with Final Fantasy: XIII

That being said, as a huge Final Fantasy fan, I can only imagine that a game like this can either make or break the Playstation 3. But if it follows the history of the other games, then it'll probably make it. But alas that brings me to the focus of this article, a teaser video for Final Fantasy XIII:

Tekken 5 To Playstation 3

December 7th, 2006 . by Josh

PSP game Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will be appearing on the Playstation 3 as a downloadable game. This version will have the playable version of Jinpachi and will work in high definition as well.

At this time no date has been given of when this will appear on the Playstation 3 online service for download, but having this game for download will defiantly help boost Sony's sales.

Sony Is Probably Making A PSThrii-Mote

December 6th, 2006 . by jb

PSThwii-moteA patent that Sony filed has recently been dug up and exposed.  In it, the patent details out the use of a remote input device that would enable Sony's products to have mouse-like pointer capabilities.

While the patent doesn't explicitly specify which product it would be used with (although it does mention video game consoles as a potential candidate), it does make a few references to "Analog Stick" and "Directional Pad".  These references are talking about the current means of navigating their menus.

I don't know of any other Sony product that uses analog sticks to navigate menus aside from their game consoles, do you?

*ponders*

Take this motion sensing part of the Sixaxis… now stick one of these mouse-like pointer device jobbies in it…

Playstation 3 Stolen?

December 6th, 2006 . by Josh

Why yes, it was. News from Japan yesterday reveals that 180 Playstation 3 consoles have been stolen from a warehouse in the middle of the day. Unsure if they were the 60gb version, or the 20gb, the source at 1UP.com figures all together these were worth 9.5 million yen!

And people say the launch in the United States was bad.

PSP 3.01 Firmware Status: Violated Like A School Girl

December 4th, 2006 . by jb

PSP

A new version of DevHook was released today which allows for the emulation of the PSP 3.01 firmware.

Gamers can now enjoy downloading PS1 games to their PSP's (via the PS3) without fear of losing their previously downloaded games.

And in other news: pens dispense ink when you rub the tips on stuff.

But honestly, is it a surprise to anyone that DevHook has stolen Sony's lunch money, yet again?

Is there any end to this in sight?  Is it even possible to stop it?  Are there games worth even hacking?

Any cat's in heat looking for a little man love?

God of War 3 Lives!

December 4th, 2006 . by Josh

But only on paper but, creator David Jaffe comes off as REALLY wanting to make this game. Unfortunately he needs to finish God of War 2 before that can even happen. Nonetheless I think God of War 3 on the Playstation 3 could really help that console take off, that game has kept the Playstation 2 alive even with the Xbox 360 looming over it's head.

One thing you need to give this man is props, at least hes straight forward, drunk or not. He has my respects for being as honest and public with what has been happening with his games and career.

Linux, Currently The Best Reason To Own A PS3

December 2nd, 2006 . by jb

Yellow Dog LinuxWith the announcement of Yellow Dog Linux for the PS3, I was positive that it would lead to all kinds of horrible horrible things.

Horrible things such as:

    – Retro-Game emulation
    – Blu-Ray movie ripping
    – Virtual reality sex-simulators

Luckily they've only figured out how to do the former of the two, but my god they're close to the latter…

Maybe those people buying PS3's without any games were onto something?

Gran Turismo Goes Through Another Change

December 1st, 2006 . by Josh

Latest news from Sony Japan is that developer, Polyphony Digital, has shifted their efforts from Gran Turismo HD to focus on the upcoming Gran Turismo 5. On December 24th, Gran Turismo HD will be released in Japan on the Playstation 3 store as a free digital download named Gran Turismo HD Concept.

Unfortunately, Gran Turismo HD Concept will lack any special features such as online play, but it should prove to be a good look into the future for where they hope to take the series.
