Virtua Fighter Dated!

December 19th, 2006 . by Josh

February 20th, remember that day, I mean it. It's the day a game that is good, will actually be released on the Playstation 3. Well, we hope that it's good.

Sony is in dire need of games like this to sell well and build their console fan base up in all regions. Japan will get the game February 8th and for Europe it will be a launch title apparently.

Playstation 3 Network Registration

December 15th, 2006 . by Josh

Well for all of our (zero) readers from Europe, you get the chance to register your Playstation 3 user names in advance. Which is a very good thing indeed, as you won't be getting the console for a long, long time, and rumored to be even longer (sorry my gamer brethren).

Passing Up Playstation 3

December 13th, 2006 . by Josh

So yesterday I was offered a Sony Playstation 3, apparently with two games for $650-$700 or so.

Is it a good price? Yes, of course. I unlike most of the internet, and my fellow Playgasm writers can justify buying a $600 console. How? Think of it as a investment for the future, it has a lot of new (yes albeit unproven) technologies inside of it. The console will last the life of a Playstation or Playstation 2, and probably longer.

But does that matter? No not really, not unless the games are there to support this console. Even though the launch list lacked many great games, honestly no console has great launch games.  Get over it people.

As I sit here at work, listening to the NESKimos, all I can tell you is that I turned this console down at this time, not because of the price, or the brand, or even the failure of the advertising name behind the brand, but ultimately it's because of the lack of games for it right now.  I'm a gamer, I just want to play games, not worry about who's name is on the box.

I'll get a Playstation 3 people, but on my own time, and only when the games I want for it are out.

Playstation Ruined English Football…apparently

December 12th, 2006 . by jb

English FootballCan Sony buy some horrible good press nowadays?

In some non-gaming story about the current status of England's Football program, some guy from Northern-Ireland says:

"When we all grew up, we didn't have Playstation, or PS2 or 24-hour TV….so we played football (soccer). If my son played football (soccer) as much as he does with his Playstation, he'd be a better player, it's a fact of life."

The Wii may be causing some minor damages lately, but apparently the Playstation will ruin your ability to succeed in life.

I need some time to rethink my existence…

Take-Two Football Comeback?

December 11th, 2006 . by Josh

Am I physic or what, while playing Madden NFL 07 on the Xbox 360 yesterday with Keith, I mentioned that it would be neat if Take-Two made a football game with a different roster and such.

Today at work while reading the Kotaku RSS feed they have an article on how 2k Sports (Take-Two) will be making a football game next year based on historical players. This is good news for us, although, yeah it's historical football and all, but it's still competition for EA's Madden NFL which I believe has become extremely stale. Heres what IGN has to say:

"2K fans need to brush up on historical players (how can you play a game with legends if you can't tell Steve Young from Steve Bono?). And EA Sports is going to come out blazing with new features in Madden to try and hold off the throwback phenomenon Visual Concepts will finally announce sometime after the new year."

Hopefully all this will come true, and 2k Sports will get back to making a good football game, with an actual football feel, which like Kotaku said, "this rumored competition will light a fire under EA and Tiburon"

Japan Gets Virtua Fighter 5

December 11th, 2006 . by Josh

In February of course, but to be exact, February 8th. As of now no date has been set for a United States or Europe release, but the Japanese version will run you 8190 yen ($70) according to 1up.com.

It's nice to see Sega is truly supporting all the next gen consoles current-gen consoles by continuing titles for each system that everyone loves.

The Sony Says: Production Problems Fixed!

December 11th, 2006 . by jb

PS LogoDavid Karraker, a Sony communications head, has announced that production of PS3 units are back on target.

"While initial day-one launch shipment goals weren't achievable due to early manufacturing issues, those problems have been resolved and we do remain focused on having one million PS3s in the pipeline by December 31, 2006"

He goes on to remind us that while the PS3 isn't having a stellar launch, the PS2 is still selling like hotcakes.

"The six year old PlayStation 2 continues to dominate the market, outselling all other computer entertainment systems in November, including much newer systems from the competition"

For Sony's sake, I'm hoping that comment was in reference to the XBox camp, as taking shots at the Wii doesn't seem very logical.

Either way, Sony seems to be stepping in the right direction again.  And for their sake: I hope it's true.

Metal Gear: Portable Ops

December 9th, 2006 . by Josh

Need a reason to brush all that collected dust off your PSP? Me too, but for this game, it will be worth it. Hideo Kojima and the crew at Kojima Productions have graced us again with another Metal Gear title for the Playstation Portable, how will this one hold up?

Well according to this review by GameTrailers.com it seems to hold up rather nicely besides some silly control and camera issues. But those issues can make or break a game like Metal Gear since it's game play is dependent on staying silent and hidden. With all that said, the game itself seems to work just fine for the PSP with several new things for the handheld such as Wifi play, in the end they scored the game a 8.3. But I'll just have to get myself a copy and see how accurate they are!
