Rare At Work

February 5th, 2007 . by Josh

According to Edge magazine in the UK, it seems that Microsoft is now having Rare develop a title for Xbox Live Arcade.

Although no real details of the game have surfaced, it seems that Nick Burton (Kameo, Star Fox Adventures) and a small team are in fact working on a downloadable game.

XBL Achievement Point Laws

February 2nd, 2007 . by jb

XBL has recently defined the rules of Achievement Points allowed by games.  I paraphrased the goods for you, as it's a lot of blah.

1.  Disc-based games MUST have 1,000 Gamerscore built into the game.  This 1000 Gamerscore can be from the game itself or free add-ons.

2.  Add-ons (free or paid) can supply an additional 250 Gamerscore.

3.  XBLA games can provide up to 250 Gamerscore, with an additional 50 via add-ons (free or paid).

The first and section seems alright, but what's going on with second and third sections?  So they are now encouraging the charging of microtransactions…awesome.  There are so many ways to abuse these rules it's not even funny.  Expect to get more incomplete games, and be sold the rest via microtransactions, because now you're paying for Gamerscore!

Thanks XBL!

Upcoming Lost Planet Patch

February 1st, 2007 . by Josh

It's nice to see Capcom taking an active role in keeping Lost Planet worthy of being one of the top Xbox 360 games out there. So to keep it going they're currently preparing a patch for the game to fix a few issues people have been experiencing.

New Stuff:

  • In the pre-game lobby, a country flag icon will be shown next to the Gamertag of each player. This will be especially helpful for determining location of the match
  • In the pre-game lobby, an icon will be added next to each player’s Gamertag, indicating connection strength, speed and rating.
  • In Team Elimination, Post Grab and Fugitive modes, an indicator will be added next to the Gamertag of the person who is speaking.
  • At the post-match Results screen, an indicator will be added next to the Gamertag of the person who is speaking.
  • At the post-match Results screen, Gamertags of the players who have left the session will be darkened.

  • Sometimes in Fugitive mode there would be multiple Fugitives instead of just one.
  • Occasionally, if an error occurred on the lobby screen, another lobby screen would be displayed on top of it.
  • Sometimes when there was a long delay/lag, the game would hang at the transition screen going from the lobby to the game and then reboot.
  • Sometimes when there was a long delay/lag, depending on the console, certain players in the match would become invisible for the duration of the match.
  • Sometimes post-match Results screens would show players who did not participate in the match.
  • Starting a taunt animation during a reload shortened the reload time as an exploit

For those expecting this update, you'll unfortunately have to wait until early March.

Unreal Tournament 3, Still On!

January 31st, 2007 . by Josh

Oh it's on! Midway seems to have made a tiny mistake on a fact sheet which in turn, caused everyone to believe the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game were coming soon. But what about the Playstation 3 version you ask? Well through Midways confusion people thought the game was delayed until 2008, it's not.

Now that the confusion is all cleared up, all three platforms will be getting Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007, no delay for the Playstation 3 or any other console, at least no yet. One thing most people forgot, it's Epic who makes Unreal Tournament, they'll decide when it will come out.

Poor, Poor Xbox Dreamers

January 31st, 2007 . by Josh

It's a sad day for any Xbox 360 user who dreamed, dreamed of having Devil May Cry 4 on their console. Apparently Capcom has come out of the closet.

They once more shattered a rumor in its infant stage denying that they plan on releasing the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive on the Xbox 360.

But don't worry people, soon it will be February, and you all can come up with more rumors to spread about Capcom. Maybe bring back some favorite classics, like Microsoft buying them!
