PS3 Already KOs the 360 in Japan

December 8th, 2006 . by jb

Lieutenant Dan...ice cream....!Even with a massive headstart, the Xbox 360 has already been bested in sales by the home-grown PS3.

The numbers in Japan look like:

 – PS3: 187,836 units sold (1 months time)

 – XBox 360: 178,070 units sold (1 years time)

If the PS3 and the 360 were boxers, this would have been Muhammid Ali vs. Lieutenant  Dan… the sans-legs…Lieutenant Dan.

The real winner in Japan, of course, is the Wii.  Had the PS3 been more widely available…now that's another story.

Gears Of Housekeeping

December 8th, 2006 . by Josh

Mark Rein of Epic games has announced that their will be a Gears of War patch coming hopefully before Christmas. This patch will hopefully be minor but as stated in a interview it will be for "housecleaning" purposes.

Although this patch could change and add more functionality or fix other issues known to the game, I suppose it should be taken as just a minor patch until more details are given over time.

Xbox Live Video

December 8th, 2006 . by Josh

Sick of Jack Black yet? I know I'm not! But if having Tenacious D as the Xbox Live Artist of the month is not enough for you, news from Major Nelson himself, is that the full length release of Nacho Libre is available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Coming in at a hulking 1.0gb of Jack Black goodness, this is a good chance for those who never got to see it in the theater.

Small Arms “Review”

December 7th, 2006 . by Josh

Although I wouldn't say it's a true review, Destructoid posted a valuable article from their views of why Small Arms is not worth buying for the Xbox 360.

Most of what they said is what I've heard alot of others say about it as well, having not tried the game myself, I can't pass much judgment on it. But I do think anyone who was looking into buying this Xbox Live Arcade title, should take what they say into consideration before spending money on a possible dud of a game.

RoboBlitz out for XBLA

December 6th, 2006 . by Josh

Another Wednesday, another Xbox Live Arcade game. This week the release of RoboBlitz will probably break wallets with it's 1200 Microsoft point price, but at least it's using the Unreal Engine 3.

Bungie Teases Halo Fans

December 6th, 2006 . by jb

Master Chief Sex-poseA recent chat with Bungie's Frank O'Connor has yielded a few "kinda confirmed" rumors.

You can find the full transcript over at XBoxic, but for those unwilling to click into the great beyond, here are a few tidbits:

  • The "shield grenade" is possibly not a grenade at all
  • In the last section of the ad, the new Wraith vehicles can be seen
  • The commercial takes place in the same locale as the E3 trailer (confirmed as Earth)
  • The children at the start of the ad may have relevance to the actual Halo game

This to me is just another clever way to keep the Halo buzz in full throttle.  With people in constant debate about the implications of these "revelations", the Halo universe will remain in the discussions of gamers everywhere.

Me?  I have my fingers crossed that I'll somehow snag a beta invite and leave the speculation to the internet-crazies.

Doesn't mean I won't be reading what the crazies have to say, though…

Halo 3 Trailer

December 4th, 2006 . by Josh

Although it's nice Microsoft doesn't want it’s fans to forget the Halo series, frankly, advertising a highly unfinished game at this point is such a waste. Of course, Microsoft has nothing but truck loads of money to waste on such things. It still begs why are they advertising a game that is just barely in beta now, and will probably go through several revisions before it's released.

Anyway, the video is rather pretty, and comes off as a new age E.T for the Atari 2600 commercial in some sick kind of way. Enjoy.

Xbox Live Weekly Activity

December 2nd, 2006 . by Josh

XboxMajor Nelson released the latest list for this week's Xbox Live activity. It's not really too surprising that Gears of War dominated the charts on the 360 side of things, just as it's not too surprising that Halo 2 was number one on the Xbox side.

All-in-all I'd say the list was fairly predictable, as people tend to stick with one major franchise on the Xbox until another comes out.

Top 5 games on Xbox Live for 11/27:

Xbox 360:

  • Gears of War
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Small Arms
  • Lost Planet (Online Demo)
  • Superman (Demo)

Original Xbox:

  • Halo 2 (Surprise! Surprise!)
  • Battlefield 2: MC
  • Madden NFL 07
  • Star Wars: Battlefront 2
  • Counter-Strike

Halo 3 Beta Signups – Dec 4th

November 30th, 2006 . by jb

OMGZERS!The day that XBox Enthusiasts have been waiting years for is finally near…or at least a sign-up for the event is.

Bungie is reporting that gamers will be allowed to register for the upcoming Halo 3 Beta, that is supposed to hit spring of 2007.

There is a lot of speculation that players would have to pay for access to the beta, but this registration leads me to believe that Bungie might force a limit of testers instead.

I don't think you need me to tell you that putting shackles on the Halo community could be disastrous from a fanboy standpoint.

Future headline:  "Halo 3 Accounts: $3,500 average on eBay"
