Microsoft And Capcom Rumor

January 13th, 2007 . by Josh

Put this one to rest my friends, Kotaku has received word from Capcom that they are not being bought out by software giant Microsoft. All I can say is, thank god.

As much as I don't mind Microsoft in the console market, owning Capcom would suck, I'm a huge Capcom franchise supporter, mainly Street Fighter and Mega Man but I could not see those titles just on the Xbox 360.

Weekly Xbox Live Activity

January 13th, 2007 . by Josh

Well, we managed to get through the week people! But let's see what was some of the most popular games on the Xbox shall we?

Xbox 360:

  • Gears of War (OHH BIG SURPRISE!)
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas
  • Call Of Duty 3
  • Madden NFL 07
  • Oblivion

Live Arcade:

  • Ms. Pac-Man
  • UNO
  • Assault Heroes
  • Geometry Wars Evolved
  • Texas Hold 'em

Xbox 1:

  • Halo 2
  • Madden NFL 07
  • Battlefield 2: MC
  • Star Wars: BattleFront 2
  • Counter-Strike

Ya, pretty much what I expected, with the exception of Ms. Pac-Man being first on the arcade side of things.

GameTrailers Lost Planet Review

January 13th, 2007 . by Josh

Now that Capcom's latest venture into the Xbox 360 Lost Planet is out, we bring you the video review by GameTrailers. Though they gave it a rating I'm almost positive many Xbox users will argue with, it seems to be the type of game everyone will find their own value for.

All in all, I'm thrilled Capcom is taking such an interest in this new generation of consoles, between Dead Rising and now Lost Planet I personally can not wait to see what they cook up for the Playstation 3 and the Wii.

Official NPD Hardware Sales for December

January 11th, 2007 . by jb

It isn't pretty folks…in fact it's extremely messy.

I've taken the liberty of adding some color to make the chart seem happier.

HW Sales (month and LTD)

    Nintendo DS:     1.6 million – 9.2 million
    PS2:                  1.4 million – 37.1 million
    Xbox:                360 1.1 million – 4.5 million
    PSP:                  953.2 K – 6.7 million
    GBA:                  850.7 K – 35.1 million
    Wii:                   604.2 K – 1.1 million
    PS3:                  490.7 K – 687.3 K

Most notably, the Wii appears to have undersold, the PS3 seems about at expected, and the 360 appears to have exceeded expectations slightly.

Obviously there are tons of factors that come into play, but numbers don't lie.  This console race isn't over…not by a long shot.

Free Downloadable CoD3 Map

January 11th, 2007 . by Josh

Xbox 360 users with gold status will now have access to download a free Call of Duty 3 map titled Champs. Although the map has a silly name remember this, anytime you can get something for free on the Xbox 360 take it and run.

Dead Rising Ships 1 Million

January 10th, 2007 . by Josh

Capcom's little game titled Dead Rising has now grown into the super zombie game that reached the goal of reaching 1 million shipped.

Though plagued with silly problems such as the infamous standard definition tv small text issue, the game has become Capcom's 41st game to reach the mark of 1 million copies shipped.

It's really no surprise that this game has reached this achievement since the Xbox 360 over the summer was in dire need of an innovative game of some sorts. Capcom stepped up to the plate and helped guide the 360 to November where Gears of War grabbed the slack, and ran with it.

C&C 3 With Xbox 360 Camera

January 10th, 2007 . by Josh

According to EA the latest news surrounding the upcoming Xbox 360 title Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will feature support for Microsoft's Xbox 360 camera.

Now while playing the game on Live you can watch the face of your opponent as he either destroys you, or is being destroyed. While this is a really cool idea on the part of EA,

I wonder if something like this will become more mainstream over time. But if it does, I hope they have an option to turn it off, I tend to concentrate while playing strategy games, I don't want to see my poor opponent crying on the screen as well.

Xbox 360 Update

January 9th, 2007 . by Josh

The first but small update of 2007 for the Xbox 360 has come, and it's minor. But atleast they're taking efforts in keeping the system fresh.

  • Improvements to the Xbox Guide.
  • Option to retain your saved games when you delete a profile.
  • Increased accuracy of "last time played."
  • Network configuration improvements for Xbox Live members in the Netherlands.
  • More detailed messaging for unreadable disk or region errors.

Not a huge list of added features but I'm sure some of this will be welcomed by the growing Xbox community.

Ms Pac-Man To XBLA

January 8th, 2007 . by Josh

Yes, thats right. The classic title Ms Pac-Man will be heading to Xbox live Arcade this Wednesday. Kind of a crappy release if you ask me. Microsoft really needs to get on the ball with releasing good titles to their Arcade service if they want to compete with the Playstation Store and Nintendo's Virtual Console.

But none the less, according to 1up this aged beauty will run you 400 Microsoft points, enjoy.
