Ghostbusters Game Incoming?

January 15th, 2007 . by jb

A video has showed up on the internets that depicts a Ghostbuster running around a city and capturing random ghosts.  However, the game looks extremely rough, and the gameplay looks rather drab.  I was really excited when I read the headline at another gaming site, and now I'm left with a set a gigantic blue balls.

Check out the video yourself while I dip my nuts in cold water.

GameStop/EB Trade In

January 13th, 2007 . by Josh

GameStop and EB recently published a trade in deal through a upcoming flyer that will knock $100 off both versions of the Playstation 3 console.

What does it take for them to magically forget about the $100 on the Playstation 3's cost? Well you must trade in your working Playstation 2 (with cables), one dual shock controller and any brand 8mb memory card. Not too bad really since the PS3 will play your past games as well, it's a good way to get rid of a console and get your new one!

Sega To YTMND: You’re Mean!

January 12th, 2007 . by Josh

Sega recently sent the crew behind the popular internet site YTMND a cease and desist letter due to some user created pages.

According to 1up.com, Sega has found the use of some of their characters, Sonic included, to be offensive and in bad taste. But frankly, I don’t know what Sega’s problem is, nothing is safe there, and as specified by our source the images do fall under fair use.

Wii on the DS

January 12th, 2007 . by jb

Why not, right?  It's not like the screen is ungodly small for such an interface.  I mean, I can see tons of uses for having your Wii displayed on your portable gaming system! This alone will revolutionize the industry!

Well no…no it won't.  But at least it's something us geeks can get wood over.

WoW Reaches 8 Million Subscribers

January 12th, 2007 . by jb

World of WarcraftBlizzard's MMO-lite has created the largest subscriber base in MMO's to date.

Interestingly enough, the breakdown of locale looks something like:

    China – 3.5 million users
North America – 2 million users
    Europe – 1.5 million users
    Misc – 1 million users

Everyone knows that the Chinese gobble up MMO's like candy, so there should be little surprise there.  What is surprising is how well WoW is taking with the rest of the world.  Through WoW, there have been other phenomena that have been created to idolize the game.

From a South Park episode, to a WoW specific dating site, to even WoW-porn, World of Warcraft is in the eye of the public.

With the upcoming release of the expansion pack coming, one can only imagine what madness will result.

Happy Feet? Really…?

January 12th, 2007 . by jb
WTF Happy Feet OMG

The multi-platform game, Happy Feet, has reportedly sold more than 1.8 million copies.

To give you an idea of how insane that is… Gears of War is reported to have sold 1.8 million copies in 2006.

Happy Feet = Gears of War?!

Apparently… perhaps cute and cuddly penguins are to kids as big burly space marines are to us?  Make a game that is about space marine penguins and we've got ourselves a Game of the Year candidate!

A sad day in gaming this is…

Official NPD Hardware Sales for December

January 11th, 2007 . by jb

It isn't pretty folks…in fact it's extremely messy.

I've taken the liberty of adding some color to make the chart seem happier.

HW Sales (month and LTD)

    Nintendo DS:     1.6 million – 9.2 million
    PS2:                  1.4 million – 37.1 million
    Xbox:                360 1.1 million – 4.5 million
    PSP:                  953.2 K – 6.7 million
    GBA:                  850.7 K – 35.1 million
    Wii:                   604.2 K – 1.1 million
    PS3:                  490.7 K – 687.3 K

Most notably, the Wii appears to have undersold, the PS3 seems about at expected, and the 360 appears to have exceeded expectations slightly.

Obviously there are tons of factors that come into play, but numbers don't lie.  This console race isn't over…not by a long shot.

GoldenEye SourceNot too long ago, the GoldenEye Source project was released as a public beta.  Being a child who obsessively played GoldenEye with my friends; I was noticeably excited as the game was installing.  Could this game really recreate that classic party game we all loved?  Would the game be lost in translation to the new platform?

Read on, as I dissect the beta and give my first hand impressions.

January 9th, 2007 . by Josh

Blizzard, your mmorpg is huge, really huge but at least you're smart by adding new servers. Today Blizzard Entertainment has announced they are opening four new servers to their ever growing mmorpg World of Warcraft. These new servers consist of one Role-Playing server and three Players versus environment.

So if you're sick of lag, be like everyone else in the game and transfer to these new servers. Within a month or two, you'll feel like you haven't left your old server!
