Rainbow Six Vegas

December 14th, 2006 . by Josh

For all those who own this game, the next time you throw it in your Xbox 360, you will be greeted by a lovely auto update. As of late it seems there have been more patches and companies giving information of a upcoming patch (I'm looking at you Epic, Capcom). Is this a sign to come that hopefully game developers will actually spend time to improve their games?

Hopefully but the way I see it, atleast for companies like EA auto patching is just another crutch to get their games out of beta 5 months after they've been released to the public.

Capcom Showing Some Love

December 13th, 2006 . by Josh

Ever since the Dead Rising text problem, Capcom seems to be very responsive as to how their player-base feels about their games. From my perspective that's a wonderful thing. A company the size of Capcom actually listening to their fans? Literally insane, but amazing!

Capcom's statement to 1up.com and changes to Lost Planet:

"Capcom has been reading boards, emails and blogs, collecting thoughts and ideas directly from our growing community. Capcom would like to thank all of those people who have taken the time to share their thoughts on Lost Planet; the game is now that much stronger for it," said a company spokesperson.

  • Private slots can be set by host.
  • Invite friends to a match.
  • Number of players in a room will be displayed next to name of the room.
  • Players will not be kicked all the way out to the main menu if they try to join a full game.
  • New button allows players to refresh the match list without going out to the main menu and selecting Quick Match again.
  • Players will now go to a post-game lobby at the end of a match, not kicked back to the main menu.
  • The ability to replay a match with the same group without leaving the post-game lobby.
  • Cycling maps on replayed matches when map selection is set to Random.
  • Text size on the team selection screen will be greatly increased when using non-HD resolutions.
  • When manual team selection is set to ON, players will have 20 seconds to form teams.
  • The time limit on each match will be maxed out at 60 minutes, instead of the current unlimited time.
  • A player's custom match criteria will now be saved.

Rock on Capcom!  Just bring me better Mega Man and Street Fighter games, and we can make sweet, sweet love again.

Passing Up Playstation 3

December 13th, 2006 . by Josh

So yesterday I was offered a Sony Playstation 3, apparently with two games for $650-$700 or so.

Is it a good price? Yes, of course. I unlike most of the internet, and my fellow Playgasm writers can justify buying a $600 console. How? Think of it as a investment for the future, it has a lot of new (yes albeit unproven) technologies inside of it. The console will last the life of a Playstation or Playstation 2, and probably longer.

But does that matter? No not really, not unless the games are there to support this console. Even though the launch list lacked many great games, honestly no console has great launch games.  Get over it people.

As I sit here at work, listening to the NESKimos, all I can tell you is that I turned this console down at this time, not because of the price, or the brand, or even the failure of the advertising name behind the brand, but ultimately it's because of the lack of games for it right now.  I'm a gamer, I just want to play games, not worry about who's name is on the box.

I'll get a Playstation 3 people, but on my own time, and only when the games I want for it are out.

Xbox Live Arcade Release

December 13th, 2006 . by Josh

Ah, another Wednesday and another Xbox Live Arcade game has been released. Today folks, the name of the game is Assault Heroes and it will run you around 800 Microsoft points.

Enjoy your co-op shooters folks, but remember, try the demo first. Most Xbox Live Arcade games look nice, until you play them.

Eternal Forces: Religion-Inspired Violence

December 13th, 2006 . by jb

Jesus Vs. SatanIn Left Behind: Eternal Forces, players join the struggle against one-world-government after the rapture.  The object is to kill or convert opposing factions.  This is described as "defensive" and "not contrary to church teachings."  Apparently the game's makers skipped Sunday school on the one day they taught the whole "turn the other cheek/love thine enemies" doctrine.  In the game, players lose "spirit points" for committing murder, but can replenish these points through prayer (just like in real life).

Not surprisingly, Left Behind: Eternal Forces received a "T" (for teen) rating from the ESRB due to its violent content.  On its website, the company defends the violence:  "Our game includes violence, but excludes blood, decapitation, killing of police officers."  Well, that certainly makes the violence more palatable for the impressionable teeny-boppers, doesn't it?

Wii Breaking UK Records

December 13th, 2006 . by Josh

The Nintendo Wii certainly seems to be doing well in the UK these days. After Nintendo and ChartTrack confirmed the Wii sold 105,000 units during it's launch.

According to MCV the Wii is the first console to sell over 100,000 units during a opening weekend.

Congratulations to Nintendo, but lets see if they can keep that stock flowing through the holiday period and beyond.

Fallout MMO Discovered!

December 12th, 2006 . by jb

Fallout!Remember that little gem of a game called Fallout?  That little gem that arguably has the most rampant fanbase just waiting for FO3?  Well those fans just may have something to cream their pants over!

Titus Interactive, the parent company of Interplay, filed for bankruptcy.  Boo!

But while they were filing for bankruptcy, information about a confidential Fallout MMO were revealed.  Yay!

Interplay retained the rights to this Fallout game, so it is entirely possible that such a game could see the light of day.  Heck, just to see the name Fallout again is a breath of fresh air, let alone in MMO form.

The proposal for the game calls for a whopping $75,000,000 budget (doesn't it look crazy with all them zeros?!).

For all of our sakes, let's pray that this is all going to become a reality, because the gaming community yearns for some Fallout action.

Playstation Ruined English Football…apparently

December 12th, 2006 . by jb

English FootballCan Sony buy some horrible good press nowadays?

In some non-gaming story about the current status of England's Football program, some guy from Northern-Ireland says:

"When we all grew up, we didn't have Playstation, or PS2 or 24-hour TV….so we played football (soccer). If my son played football (soccer) as much as he does with his Playstation, he'd be a better player, it's a fact of life."

The Wii may be causing some minor damages lately, but apparently the Playstation will ruin your ability to succeed in life.

I need some time to rethink my existence…

European Zelda Case Looks Pimp

December 12th, 2006 . by jb

TP GC BoxThey may have gotten the shaft in terms of Wii hardware, but European's get this sexed out Twilight Princess box as consolation.  Yeah, it's for the GameCube, but look at it!

I have to say, I was a little disappointed when people who pre-ordered Zelda didn't get any perks.  Spose it's just the result of the game being a launch title…

*sigh*

Our TP box looks like a Wii Sports game sleeve compared to this thing!

Halo 3 Beta For Sale! Almost…

December 12th, 2006 . by jb

Halo 3 LogoRemember that Halo 3 article I wrote?  The one that said:  "Future Headline: 'Halo 3 Accounts: $3,500 average on eBay'"?  That day is coming a lot faster then I thought.

An undisclosed website based in Europe is attempting to sell it's allotment of Halo 3 Beta invites.

In response, Microsoft sent a warning e-mail to all European based websites.  The e-mail states:

"If your site is found to be one of the offenders you will not receive any beta codes and will be removed from the XCN with immediate effect. We will also ensure that Microsoft will no longer have any involvement with your site"

I hurts to be so right…
